Setting up IMAP

There are a few ways to configure your email browser to use IMAP. In the tutorial/guide below, I will show you two ways for this to work.

The first way would be through Cpanel. This is simple for if you use Outlook or Mac Mail to read your web mail. Once you are logged into your Cpanel, locate the Mail category and click on the email accounts icon.

On the email accounts overview page, you can see a list of all the email accounts you have currently made. Inside the table at the very right, there are a few buttons to help edit those specific email accounts. Click on the button that says configure email.

On this page, you will see a list of links to help automatically configure outlook and Mac Mail to use IMAP and SSL. Click on the one that best suits your needs. That's all!

Now for the second method to using IMAP. This time we will be using Thunderbird, Mozilla's free email client. If you haven't already, download Thunderbird from this link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ Once you have it set up click on TOOLS & ACCOUNT OPTIONS. On the side bar you will see a button that say ADD ACCOUNT, click on that.

Click on the New Email Account option and then click next on the bottom right.

Enter your name and email address that you will be using for this new account.

On the 'Server Information' tab make sure to select IMAP at the top and fill in the details for your servers incoming and outgoing settings. (In the picture the default show in it is used for MY email client, you have to enter your own) Click the next button when you are finished.

A window asking you to name your account will then show, fill in the details and click next.

After you are done, a tab showing your new accounts details will show up, look it over and make sure everything is correct, if not be sure to use the nifty back button to edit your information. After that click then finish button.

Now under the new account you created, on the side bar, you will see it has a list of options. Click on Server Settings. Click on where it says ADVANCE at the right.

In the IMAP field, write out mail and then click OK

Back in the side bar you will see at the very bottom an option that says OUTGOING SERVER (SMTP), click on it.

For this be sure to fill out the Server name field and put 465 in the port field. Also click on SSL at the bottom then click OK. All set!
